What DO You Do?

As we roll into the waning days of summer, I am struck by the passage of time. I've been thinking a lot of the past many years, especially since we just had our adult kids and their significant others here for a bit. The heavy lifting and merry-go-round of parenting are in the rearview mirror. But there is still so much to do.

I think about the craziness of summer and savor those invitations to join other parents poolside or on walks with their little ones, as they submerge underwater for hours on end or find new bugs to marvel at outdoors. I know when I was the parent, it was not as present as I would be if I had to do it all over again. I couldn't be - that merry-go-round was about to toss me off and I was holding on for dear life.

In my 25-year journey as a parent, teacher, teacher of teachers, and adults, I've learned ways to embrace the chaos and find moments of calm. As the founder of Grounded 2 Grow, I echo the sentiment in a recent Psychology Today article titled "Mothers are Drowning in Stress." I know with support and accountability, individuals can connect, curate, and commit to both caring for themselves and others.

Over the years, I developed superpowers (okay, real strategies and tactics, but superpowers sound much more FUN!) to hold on and enjoy the ride.

I am a master at finding calm amid the chaos, and I can help you do the same.

THIS is why I love coaching so much. It's my passion and purpose for this chapter of life. As a busy parent, you often put the needs of others ahead of your own. Tabled, along with your needs, may also be your desires and hopes, or your wellness and sanity. Other moms or family members have their lense by which they see your life, and that can feel judgey or tense. Counselors often want to process your past.

Coaching offers something different.

It's a judgment-free place to identify where you are now and where you want to be. It is a place to sort out how you want to show up in the world. It highlights ways you already show up positively that and how you can craft a more balanced, purposeful, and joyful life on your terms.

How is this possible?

Each of us has the agency and ability to make positive changes to navigate the demand of life better.

  • I help clients identify the resistance, challenges, frustrations, and hopes, and then craft a plan to thrive.

  • I offer no-fuss strategies for seeing the goodness in each day, making time for yourself and managing your time, obligations, desires, and dreams.

  • I offer coaching, consulting, yoga/mindfulness, and personalized resources as well as small group sessions.

Listen with an empathetic and unbiased ear.

  • Ask you provocative questions that allow you to think about what matters most.

  • Help you set goals, see your strengths, identify supports, and establish small promises that lead you to those goals.

  • Develop micro-practices that bring you peace and purpose throughout your busy day.

  • Affirm that your efforts matter and that your work and life can be a reflection of your values and goals.

Why this work matters to me:

My work helps others feel grounded in their priorities and choices so that they can be the steady support for others while branching out and growing in ways bring them a sense of joy and purpose.

When we take care of ourselves, we're better positioned to take care of all the rest!

It's immensely gratifying to work with women who doubt their abilities and strengths because one of my superpowers is helping others see how strong and capable they are when they stop and listen. The thing is, we all have exactly what we need inside of us. And no matter what the circumstances, we are precisely where we need to be to learn the lessons, feel the feelings, be in relationships and do the work we need to be doing. Even if we question it. And if we learn the lessons and realize, "heck no!" then we formulate a new plan.

Life complicated and sticky sometimes. Maybe we learn the sticky is okay because it is not permanent. Maybe we need to outline the next chapter so we can get to a better place. Through weekly coaching calls, we identify what's working and how to take actionable steps toward the habits, routines, and priorities that bring balance, purpose, and a sense of accomplishment that comes with a heartfelt smile.

Like any good coach, I strive to put myself out of a job. You shouldn't need me forever, though I am happy to stay connected. My work is to show you that you've got what you need inside of you and that you, in the word of my fellow coach, Abbe Jacobson, YOU are the expert of you.
